# Change ID3v2.3 to ID3v1

Hey,
I need the ID3 tag to be v1. I've looked through the options, FAQ on the website, FAQ on the Forum, etc. I can see that ID3v1 is supported, I just can't find out how to convert the v2 to v1. (Or how to edit the tag to be v1 by default.)

Set your File\>Options\>Mpeg to
Read V1, V2
Write: V1
Erase: V1, V2, APE
Select the files to convert the type.
Cut the tags with the function of the context menu and paste the tags immediately afterwards. Both, cut & paste, may take a while.
Please note that transforming V2 to V1 looses the data that is stored in the V2-only tags (like album artist, cover, year).
You can check the tag version if you add a column with the value
%\_tag\_read%[(%\_tag%)]
