I have been using MP3tag for many years and I am facing the following problem for quite some time now:
Let's say I have some songs that all have FOLK as their GENRE. If for example I want to change FOLK to POP in one or all of them, this is impossible with one action as it used to be, because the drop-down list does not then show all the default genres. It only shows KEEP, BLANK & the selected genre. To change it, I first have to make them BLANK and then I can choose any other genre I want, because then the drop-down list works normally. If I remember correctly, this started happening from some early 3.xx version of MP3tag and later.
Is this a problem with MP3tag or am I doing something wrong?
The computer is running W11.

Or you just overwrite/enter your new GENRE content manually for the selected tracks (where you see `<blank>`).
Don't forget to press Ctrl + S or you click on the blue icon in the toolbar to save this change.

If you really want to use an [Action](https://docs.mp3tag.de/actions/), you could change every existing GENRE content in the selected files to - for example - POP with

Action from type "[Format value](https://docs.mp3tag.de/actions/format/)".
Field:
`GENRE`
Format string:
**POP**

This would replace every existing GENRE content in the selected files with the new content POP

See the FAQs:

> Add and Edit user-defined Genres via Custom List Values Every field on the Tag Panel can have custom values added to its drop-down list. These can be customized via [Options → Tag Panel](https://docs.mp3tag.de/customization/tag-panel/) and the Genre field is no exception. You can use Options → Tag Panel → Genre → Custom list values → Manage... to edit the list of custom Genres and also hide the standard genres, if you prefer your own. The following screenshot exemplifies the process: Import and Export of Custom Lis…

I just intalled the 2.99a version of MP3tag and GENRE on the fly selection works fine.
With 2.99a I am able to change directly the GENRE, with 3.xx I am not.

Where in the very detailed description of the [linked FAQs](https://community.mp3tag.de/t/add-custom-user-defined-genres/61122) did you get stuck?
