Conflicting Genre Tag - mp3tag vs. Lumin App

Renamed File?

What do you mean @ohrenkino

Can you ask Lumin, if they rely on the Music.app library or do they have their own library?

I am not familiar with Lumin, sorry.

Original file: Fine Artist - My song.m4a
Updated & renamed file: Fine Artist - My song_.m4a

Ah I see what you mean now

No change to the tags of the imported file by the player (Music.app except for location)

And for your curiosity I even imported a blanco file (tittle - artist only) and then changed the GENRE to JAZZ and Grouping to Jazz as well in the player, and then read the file back into MP3tag and no change to the Tag names as originally filled in.

Grouping in Music App -> ContentGroup in Mp3tag
Genre in Music App -> Genre in Mp3tag

Lumin has it’s own database, nothing at all to do with Apple Music;

Oke for my understanding please

Do you import the files normally into Lumin or into Music.app? Or??

Again, sorry I am totally not familiar with Lumin

I have my music library on a USB drive (G-MUSIC). The Lumin App is a UPnP client, so I use MinimServer to serve files from the USB to the Lumin App which plays them on the P1. To add new music I drop into the USB, no importing as such.

I found this about the MinimServer and its cache:
The MinimServer cache stores information about your music files to speed up library rescans, but can sometimes become out of sync or corrupted. If you encounter issues with artwork, the "recently added" list, or long rescan times, a full library rescan is often recommended to rebuild the cache. You can trigger this rescan from MinimWatch or the MinimServer configuration page, and wait for the minim icon to turn green or the status to show as 'Running'. If problems persist, you may need to wipe the cache folder and rebuild it from scratch

So the question is who reads the tags?

Is this MinimServer page?

@ohrenkino

Can you check the tag mappings on this page? And especially the MPEG-4/iTunes atom

No. I don't use that program. If you have a particular problem with the labelling in other programs , please open a dedicated thread for that topic.
In general: I think the whole thread is about the behaviour of 3rd party programs and their acting up while MP3tag behaves as expected.
I would contact the 3rd party program's support facilities to find out more. MP3tag cannot do a lot more than to tag accurately.

@ohrenkino

No that is not what I mean, there is a table on that page I linked to. Can you check if that confirms with Mp3tag of the iTunes Atoms?

You know more about that, then I do

Yes, I’ve rescanned the Minimserver many times (Rescan), updated the library in Lumin, problem still persists as attached;

Found a link on the Minimserver have a look

Here is the corresponding documentation for MP3tag:

Since there has been no progress with forcing either MinimServer or the Music to update, try it from Music instead. What happens if you manually update the GENRE and YEAR tags there? Does the edit remain in Music, and does Lumin see it after that? And if yes, what do you now see in mp3tag?

Yes! Changing in Apple Music, rescan MinimServer and we have Jazz baby!! Well done sir.

What does it look like now in mp3tag?

I am curious to find out if the tag field is the same and where mp3tag sees this change after the Music app edit.

Further, since MinimServer saw this change after Music updated the Genre field but not mp3tag, it seems there must be some additional relationship there.

Exactly the same as my other screenshots. mp3tag shows correct genre & year

The fields used are the exact same. So it really means the Music app, and possibly MinimServer, are not refreshing from the changes made by mp3tag.

In the Windows version, there is an option setting to force the file modification date not to change. Not sure if this applies in the Mac world. With this option, most external software becomes unaware of a change so it doesn’t refresh the data when you rescan your library. I would check to see if you have this preference checked, and disable it.

Edit: Looks like the Mac version does have an option to preserve the modification date. I would suggest you uncheck this last box if you want Music, MinimServer, Lumin, and other apps to see your changes.
