Hello, I searched and saw another person with this same issue but there was not a resolution. I am trying to change the metadata in a group of movies files that have an improperly tagged title. My filenames are good so I am trying to use the feature Convert Filename-Tag to change the Title tag. It works but takes 30-40 seconds per file. I am working on files from a locally attached hard drive on windows 11 - it is a plex server but I closed the server but no change in performance. Any ideas on how to improve this?

Using Mp3Tag v3.31a

> In the past I already noticed that the antivirus-software of windows-defender slows down the loading speed of files in MP3Tag dramatically: At this time my third-party antivirus-software (Avast) had been gotten accidently deactivated and windows-defender activated. This time I wanted to give windows-defender a second chance, deinstalled Avast and activated the defender. The same happened as before: Mp3Tag became very slow in loading files in spite of the activated library-function. I tested…

I wanted to add one more thing I just noticed. I opened task manager and Mp3Tag is using my hard drive at 150MB/s during the entire retag process - my assumption here is perhaps it is duplicating the entire file to make the change to the title metadata?

Tha depends how much space is left in the padding and how big the modification is.
Adding a picture usually leads to a temporary file.

I am just changing one metadata field - just the Title field - it is just changing text - making the Title metadata field equal to the filename.

Disabled defender but no change in delay - still using hard drive at 150MB/s.

Thank you for your suggestions so far.

As I said: it depends on the available space in the padding. If that is used up (and that could be a single character), then a copy is created.

are usually fairly large files so it takes some time to copy them

Thank you - what does the padding mean? How do I increase the padding so it does not need to copy the file to make a text change to the metadata?

You cannot modify the padding.
It its added initally and then is increased each time it is not large enough.
So, if your converter did not add any or too little padding, then the file has to be rewritten.
