I have lyrics in my extended panel. I'd like to see included in my tag panel for easier review and editing. Can this be done?

Yes. Just add the tag field "UNSYNCEDLYRICS" to your tag panel:
Tools -\> **O** ptions (or CTRL + O) -\> Tag-Panel

You can name it whatever you want, like "MyOwnLyrics". If you want to see more then 4 lines of your lyrics content, just increase the Rows number at the same option settings.
