Love this app and use it occasionally when making playlists for parties etc. But I have loads of jpeg & png files which also need tagging. Is there a similar app for them?

Hi there and welcome!

I'm not aware of an app that directly resembles Mp3tag's capabilities for images, but heard that Adobe Lightroom Classic has lots of tagging and renaming features. However, it's quite pricey for this task.

Another option is [ExifToolGUI](https://exiftool.org/gui/), which is Freeware and uses the powerful ExifTool as a backend.

Just FYI, I've moved your topic to #off-topic, as it not directly discusses Mp3tag.

For Windows-OS there are some more GUI: [https://exiftool.org/#related\_win](https://exiftool.org/#related_win)
Please check also this exiftool thread:

Would it make sense, though, to extend Mp3tag to support image formats based upon container formats already supported?

This would primarily be the [ISOBMFF](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_base_media_file_format) with JPEG2000 and, more importantly, [HEIF](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Image_File_Format) (incl. HEIC, AVCI, AVIF). I’m not sure whether WebP uses, like WebM, the Matroska/MKV container format.

PS: WebP is RIFF-based, like AVI and WAV. JPEG-XL and XS are also based on ISOBMFF, while JPEG-XR was TIFF-based and XT is just an extension to JPEG’s own JFIF.

I used to use IMatch something like a 15 years ago

But it worked as I remember in a whole other way: your tags / grouping were stored within the database itself

As I reported in this thread: [Anyone know of a MP3Tag-like program for managing metadata of pictures? - Off-Topic - Mp3tag Community](https://community.mp3tag.de/t/anyone-know-of-a-mp3tag-like-program-for-managing-metadata-of-pictures/58009/4)
which I now realize is a duplicate of this thread (I tried searching, really, I did!),
~~I find that IMatch is unrivaled at this and is developed by someone who I believe is as commited to product development as Florian. An excellent program! I am just scratching the surface on what it can do.~~

**Edit** : I can't recommend the program any longer, see details below.
After trying to learn this program for a year and dealing with issues, I cannot recommend iMatch. Maybe if you wanted to do some simple tagging but the program has many features that will get you into trouble with no warning that you may face some issues. Worst still, the developer will abandon you, if the problem is too hard to fix. He literally does not believe that if an issue exists with his program, he should resolve it. As such, how many bugs may exist in this program? Who knows but I am really disappointed in his lack of commitment to his users. Exactly the opposite can be found with Florian, but he is very rare.

Still I must agree with Crissov, that I would _think_ that MP3Tag could be extended to support image files. I do not believe that IMatch can do the filename\>Tag and other functions MP3Tag can perfom, but again, I am just scratching the surface.

Maybe you should mention that iMatch is available for EUR 146,58 or USD 129,99 as perpetual license ("you can use the software for as long as you wish"). And also be aware about the [End of Support / End-of-Life rules](https://www.photools.com/shop/#4-end-of-support-end-of-life).

I just thought people could figure that out on their own, but you are right, that would have been helpful.
