Is it somehow possible a simple _manual_ rename of a directory in Mp3tag though?

I tried to rename from a Tag Panel using \_DIRECTORY field, but it didn't work.

The tag panel field is intended to set the current working directory and does not modify the directory name.

No, it is not possible to rename a directory.
But then again, it should be easy to use Convert\>Tag-Tag for \_DIRECTORY and set the new name there.

Ok, thank you. I just though it would be handy and faster for little changes in a directory name..

Or in such cases where I don't know how to use Convert (Format string) option, like for example if I have multiple artists (Split albums, etc.).

I wasn't sure at first, because the edited name actually sticks there

But unfortunately can't be saved..

TBH I don't understand what you mean with

As format string you can set any string, even a fixed one to be used.
If you want to move indivdual files to separate folders, then you have to rename the file, not the folder.

I assume that you have used `_DIRECTORY` for the content of your Tag Panel field:
 ![2025-02-09_185806](https://community.mp3tag.de/uploads/default/original/3X/3/4/3456445817a3ddb6df2ef5f25b6107205ae9a6e0.png)

The [documentation](https://docs.mp3tag.de/format/#technical-information) says about fields starting with an underscore:

> Technical information fields begin with an underscore `%_` **are read-only**

Just to be clear:
You can enter another existing directory name in your Tag Panel field and change to that existing folder.
But you can not directly rename the visible directory with a new directory name.
(As you can do it for example in the Windows File Explorer with F2)

I mean to name the directory with both artist names (e.g. in case of two-way split).

Yes, this might be the closest thing, I was just thinking of doing it directly from Tag Panel.

If you want to separate the files into 2 folders, then you have to rename the files, not the directory.

No, I just want to name the single directory like I would normally do with `%artist% - %album% - %type% - %year%`

I just don't know how to achieve this if there are different artists and I want to have them all in the directory name: `Artist1 & Artist2 - SomeAlbum - Split - 2024`

In this case you would have to use as
Format string `Artist1 & Artist2 - %album% - %type% - %year%`
