# Mp3Tag is automaticaly loading directory

When I open Mp3Tag it loads all of the files of whatever folder I’m in…

This didn’t used to happen and I have turned off Select Files Automatically… Sometimes it acts like it’s retained the previous files…

I don’t want this behavior but the documentation tells me to do what I’ve done and it doesn’t help.

You can choose to start mp3tag with no files.

File\>Options\>Directories - Choose "Empty" in the Startup Directories drop-down list.

The [documention](https://docs.mp3tag.de/customization/options/directories/#startup-directory) says about the startup directory:

> ## Startup directory
> 
> You can now specify the startup behavior of Mp3tag.  
> **Empty** starts with an empty File List.  
> **Previous** starts with the folder which was loaded the last time you’ve used Mp3tag.  
> **Favorite** lets you choose a explicit folder (see above) that is loaded on startup.
