I still want to mention that some virus-/malware scanners explicitly block apps that are renaming/modifying a large number of files in bursts, which can be a sign of a ransomware attack.
It's possible that Mp3tag is locking at your device and that it's a problem within Mp3tag. I've reviewed (again) the relevant code paths and didn't find a problem that might explain what you're experiencing.
I think all possibilities are ruled out by now and I'd like to leave it at this. If anyone has another idea, or if it suddenly resolves itself, I'm happy to get feedback.
Hey Florian, I've disabled windows defender and get the same issue, so same issue on win11 with no virus / malware scanning running.
It also has the same issue with one single file being renamed.
I'm happy to take a debug/dev build with increased logging to see if that highlights the issue, but uninstalling complete and re-installing I'm getting the same issue.
I appreciate that win11 is new and I'm in a fairly unique position as I'm sure most people are not trying to rename 2 things to the same name very often. But would like to get mp3tag working again please.
I'm also running Windows 11 test systems (normal, insider beta, and insider dev) and can't reproduce the issue there. It's also not sooo new anymore and I'm sure many users encounter naming collisions.
What I've tried is to rename files via Convert → Tag - Filename using a static format string, e.g., test which enforces a naming collision. The result is a combined error message for each of the files that couldn't be renamed.
Ok, so is there any resolution for me with this install, how do I "cleanly" remove mp3tag please, so I don't see the same error? (I have done the same thing for many months, I've only seen it on the latest build of mp3 tag, which I just upgraded to"
If I can clear un-install mp3tag and get it back to working I'd appreciate it, or I guess I can d/l an older version and see if it works fine then? Your guidance on a workaround would be appreciated.
