# MP4 Tags for MP4 Files

The documentation in this regard is really bad indeed. They apparently want users to use their editor and primarily rely on online sources based upon folder and file name matching. If Plex is (still) anything like [Kodi/XBMC](https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/blob/master/xbmc/video/tags/VideoTagLoaderFFmpeg.cpp) here, it relies on [FFmpeg](https://community.mp3tag.de/t/mp4-felder-atom-box/48614/2) to [read the MP4 user metadata tags](https://github.com/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/blob/master/libavformat/mov.c#L292).
