MPEG 4 (mp4) ist ein Containerformat.  
D. h., dass das Format mp4 nur eine "Schachtel" darstellt, in der Medieninhalte gespeichert werden können, wie Videospuren (unter anderem Xvid oder DivX), Audiospuren (mp3, aac, ac3, ...), Kapitelmarkierungen, Untertitel und die Tags, die Mp3tag ausliest.
