Florian, the procedure at [Installation & Backup](https://community.mp3tag.de/t/964/3)

> To take your Mp3tag installation and all of its settings with you, you first have to run the installer on your home computer in the standard way.
>
> After that copy the installation directory, normally
> C:\Program Files\Mp3tag
>
> to your portable device and also copy the contents of the directory
> %APPDATA%\Mp3tag

is perhaps missing a step. If you try just this, you find there is no directory %APPDATA%\Mp3tag. To create it, you have to run the app first.

If you run the program only to create %APPDATA%\Mp3tag and then copy its contents, all you'll get are default settings. There would be little reason to copy default settings from appdata to another computer.

Better than no settings 🙂

Regardless, its a requirement of the procedure.

There would be zero reason to "copy" default settings. You're going to get the defaults anyway on the other system after a new install. Why would you even attempt it?

It ensures you get some settings.

In my case: because the procedure requires it.

Anyone who thinks they know better is welcome to skip it.
