# Question about setting track number based on MP3 creation date

Hi all - thanks in advance for any help!

Is it possible to set track order of a group of MP3s based on their creation date? For example, track #1 as the MP3 with the oldest creation date of the group, and track #2 as the MP3 with the second oldest creation date, and so on.

Hopefully, that makes sense. Thanks again!

You can [add a new column to the File List](https://community.mp3tag.de/t/customization-of-tag-panel-and-file-list/56067#customizing-the-file-list-2) via **Preferences → File List** that displays the creation date using `%_file_create_datetime%` as value and `%_file_create_datetime_raw%` as sort criteria.

Clicking on the header of this new column in the File List sorts the files accordingly (alternatively: **View → Sort by → Created** ).

After that, you can use **Convert → Assign Track Numbers...** to sequentially assign track numbers in one go.
