Is it possible to display Windows Explorer "Star ratings" (#1) in MP3tag "List" panel (#2).

I entered the ones that appear on the "List" panel that transfer to Explorer. They also appear on the "Tag" panel when I enter them in Explorer.

I can't figure how to get the "Star ratings" that already appear in Explorer to display in the "List" panel.

Unsuccessfully I've tried using the following in the following "Value" tag in the field next to "Rating":

$repeat('\*',$if($eql($regexp(%POPULARIMETER%,'^rating@winamp.com|(\d{3})|.+$','$1'),255),5,$if($eql($regexp(%POPULARIMETER%,'^rating@winamp.com|(\d{3})|.+$','$1'),196),4,$if($eql($regexp(%POPULARIMETER%,'^rating@winamp.com|(\d{3})|.+$','$1'),128),3,$if($eql($regexp(%POPULARIMETER%,'^rating@winamp.com|(\d{2})|.+$','$1'),64),2,$if($eql($regexp(%POPULARIMETER%,'^rating@winamp.com|(\d{1})|.+$','$1'),1),1,%RATING WMP%))))))

I also want to use a checkbox on the "Tag" panel to show me that a rating is applied. However, it hides or removes the rating number I enter on the "List" panel and it doesn't transfer to Explorer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Load a song showing stars in Windows Explorer in Mp3tag.
Press Alt + T and show us a screenshot from the appearing Extended Tags window.

**Update:**
What about the [already started topic](https://community.mp3tag.de/t/rating-display-as-numbers-or-stars/67159) about the same rating questions?

(RATING MM is for MediaMonkey, RATING WMP would be the one for WIndows Media Player)

I just started working on this function today and need to know how to display ratings from Explorer into MP3tag in my post from earlier today (see above with screen shots).

I think the "Value" in #2 above should be something else?

I don't know how to close a post and I'm unable to delete my post.

You can try it with
`%POPULARIMETER%`
instead of
`%rating mm%`
in your screenshot #3

BTW:
If you follow the instructions and load only 1 song into Mp3tag you can see the content in [POPULARIMETER](https://docs.mp3tag.de/mapping/#popularimeter) in the Extended Tags window.

I think that sorting by your new column "Rating" in the File List is much easier to handle.
You can just click on the column header and see the ones that already have a rating and then the empty ones. If you click the column header again, the sort order will be changed from ascending to descending.

Or - if you prefer - you can activate the Filter F3 and filter for entries with or without content in POPULARIMETER.

Is ALT + T the "Extended" list?

 ![ratings_screen2](https://community.mp3tag.de/uploads/default/original/3X/0/f/0f1db58ad443f57ce3f01ad7dd44eb9b4f6fd71b.jpeg)

Produces nothing:

%POPULARIMETER% instead of %rating mm% in your screenshot #3

I followed the instructions and previously read the linked page a few times before I posted my question, and is the only result that also shows when I press ALT + T (For example purposes, I intentionally marked all other fields [keep] on "Tag" and "Panel" lists). Note: used brackets surrounding "keep" because the angle brackets don't show up in this post:

Load only 1 song into Mp3tag you can see the content in [POPULARIMETER](https://docs.mp3tag.de/mapping/#popularimeter) in the Extended Tags window.

To avoid `<keep>` you must not select several tracks but only 1.

The extended tags dialogue also shows that you have APE tags in the file(s).
Depending on the settings in the Options Ctrl-O \>Tags\>Mpeg which tag versions you write, you do not update the APE tags.

The extended tags dialogue also shows that the selected file(s) do not have a field POPULARIMETER or RATING MM.

Only 1 track is selected. I manually entered "keep" in the fields for the screenshot because I have favorable results with them. Ratings is the only one that I don't see results that already exist and visible in Explorer.

Did you check the linked thread

> [@"Rating" field in Windows Explorer](https://community.mp3tag.de/t/rating-field-in-windows-explorer/56860):
>
> Hello, in my music list I give a rating (stars) to each song in the "Rating" field in Windows Explorer. It would be interesting to be able to include this field in MP3TAG in order to make a classification. Please consider my request.

The Windows Explorer has the habit of writing the rating into a private XML tag (at least for MP4s) and if you do not see any ratings in MP3tag then something similar has happened to those files as well.
I just checked with an MP3 file and set 3 stars in the windows explorer properties dialogue and that appeared as expected as
 ![grafik](https://community.mp3tag.de/uploads/default/original/3X/7/6/7654ef8493c6bff99d263aaf843f7c3189640579.png)

So you have to find out why your files do not show this field.
Perhaps it helps to turn off to read APE tags.

I unchecked "Remove" for APE and ID3v2?

The result is either an empty field or one that says %rating% when I switch it with "POPIMETER" in the "Value" field on "List".

That is the section APE, Mpc of the options but not MPEG.

This section only refers to files in the APE audio format but not to APE tags.
Switch off reading APE tags in this dialogue:

Metadata Panel (no screenshot) did not show "Rating" so I tested it by adding the field to the Panel using all tags from the extended list, but the results only display the "Value" that I'm required to include.

You have to define an item in the tag panel like this:

Where did I suggest such settings?

And again: as long as the extended tags dialogue does not show a rating field (POPULARIMETER, RATING MM, RATING WMP etc) somewhere, the column will remain empty.

As a lot of settings seem to be applied more or less randomly, I strongly suggest that first of all you try to find a file with an existing field POPULARIMETER.
And all further testing and customization then uses this file as test object.
