Ratings (Display Results from Explorer to MP3tag)

I tried all of your "suggestions" or posts that are written above this message.

It's working but now I'm back to read posts and figure out how to automatically convert "Ratings" entries "Windows Media Player 9 Series|255" to "255" without having to add a new field that displays results of a converted string.

This result comes from tracks previously rated in Windows Explorer or when I check stars in Explorer.

A quick solution is for me to sort the "Ratings" field, highlight all items, and delete all text except "255". I'm okay with this procedure for now while I verify my hardcopies against MP3s.

Moving forward I'd like to figure this out so I won't be concerend about new entries made in Explorer.

That breaks the format - and thereform IMHO does not make sense.
What i would do:

  • Untick the Ctrl-O Options>Tags>Advanced>Always display POPULARIMETER values for ID3V2 tags
  • As field for the rating use the field RATING WMP (and not POPULARIMETER)
  • Enter a digit from 1-5 or the corresponding number of * for the rating.
  • As column definition you could set as
    Value: $repeat(*,$num(%rating wmp%,1))

This works great and exactly what I wanted. Now I'm able to enter numbers 1 - 5 OR check the amount of stars and the values transfer between MP3tag and Windows Explorer. Much better than entering POPULARIMETER ratings (1 - 255).

How would this benefit from defining the value: $repeat(*,$num(%rating wmp%,1))?

Have you tried it? That would be much quicker than a chat exchange.

The number of stars I check in Explorer do not transfer to Mp3tag. They only transfer to Explorer when I enter numbers on MP3 tag and list panels.

Please show us a screenshot of the extended tags dialogue from a single file for which you have set the rating in Windows Explorer.
But this is more or less the same request as in this post:

The iron rule is: data that isn't there cannot be displayed.
