Sometimes updating a tag in iTunes doesn't reflect in Mp3Tag

Disappointing:

This didn't work, it ran fine but didn't change the tags to the right values.

Thanks for the tips though.

Oh yes, the reason I have to use an older version of iTunes is because I ABSOLUTELY HATE the new more commercial versions of itunes that Apple released, they've eliminated a lot of the nice features, such as the lower left corner link that allows you to to view the artwork.
Also, the vbscripts that I use in conjunction with SAS to populate, fix and standardize tags, and to organize my files, don't work with the newer versions.

The version I'm using is the latest older version that will still work to sync files with my ipod, which also happens to work with my vbscripts, and that is version 10.7.0.21.

I was pretty sure playing the file (option 1) worked in all versions. Although that could be an effect of the keep folder organised option which you don't use.

Another possible one.

I forgot what I used in your version tbh.

OPTION 3
In itunes
If there's info in the iTunes tag window like sort composer you don't use
Fill that in
Accept dialog
close

Does it update? If so you can do that for all files and then create smart playlists to weed out the field you just filled in so you can then remove the same value from it.

I used to do this until I found method two but it's just slower. Probably ten times to be exact.

Obv there's the vb scripts but I would never trust them to do something if there's an internal method to do the same no matter how convoluted it may seem.

After this I'm stumped. Have you thought of switching to another player? I've recently switched to foobar2000 and love it. Supports flac and you don't feel like you've your hands tied. If you want to keep your playback stats from iTunes you can. https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,114448.0.html

They also have a mobile version for the Apple phone.

Thank you Steve, let me try this.
So far the only solution that I know works is to remove the file from the database and readd it.

Now, I will try your solution, not the most elegant, but if it works I may resort to it indeed.
No, it doesn't work.

Btw, even the programming design of this forum is so stupid, I hate how stupid and dumb all the applications and programs have become lately, MS Excel is the one I hate the most, but not only that, Windows 10 and Facebook also suck donkey. I hate windows 10 so much that I wish I could throw an atomic bomb at Bill gates house, and the reason why I hate it so much is because windows 10 is not new, it's a supposed improvement over older versions, but it seems at each new version these idiots take 1 step forward and 2 steps back.
Can't believe that idiot got so rich by offering us such a garbage.

It takes a lot of patience to use computers often, due to how dumb 99% of the applications are.
Just a little ranting here.

Just realized that iTunes won't accurately update a tag changed outside of iTunes if
a field was removed, only if it's changed to a non null value.
I tested that removing the Year in Mp3Tag, then Get Info in iTunes didn't update the value.
When I set the year to a 1000 instead, the iTunes picked it up and updated the tag.
So it seems the shitty app here is iTunes, not sure what I can do for it to reflect the real state of the tags that doesn't involve removing outdated metadata tracks and readding them.

Good news, guys, I just noticed Google is showing this page for certain searches, haha...

I was looking for a better script that perhaps will do the trick of actually updating the tags in itunes, when noticed the 3rd link suggested by Google was pointing to this page. Lol

Mmh, that doesn't seem right. There was always some way to got the info regenerated in iTunes and I was petty sure one of those 3 methods all worked at some point in time.

My pet hate is removing items and readding them as you'll lose all your metadata stored by their in-house (please don't use any other software) library.xml file. Play-count, rating, date added, last played etc.and you're left with music you added years ago in your recently added playlist.

I don't know what you can do from here. Ask over on the iTunes forum perhaps. I doubt you'll get any helpful response other than to update to the latest version.

Even then, it's not straightforward.

Okay, try this.

I've never tested this to update tags and I'm going by experience. I've used this method to create a portable iTunes library many times.

Bold items are optional.

  • Close iTunes, if open
  • As always when you do something new, backup the relevant .xml files and itunes files
  • Hold down shift and click on the iTunes icon
  • This puts iTunes into picking your location of the .xml file.
  • You can actually move it to any location be it your local drive or in my case a portable drive where the music is stored.
  • Just DON'T move the music location
  • Select your original file or portable one if you want to make it portable.
  • ITunes will then load that .xml file and all the playlists etc as it was before.
  • Any time after this just click on the iTunes icon and it'll load as normal and read the last used .xml location wherever that may be.

One factor that I don't know is that it might update the entire libraries metadata in the process.

You'll be surprised how fast it'll be if it works.

Good luck.
