Let's say I have a folder with 3000 music files, then I right click a mp3 and choose the "Mp3tag" shell extension. This'll open Mp3tag but the application will begin to list all 3000 music files, when all I wanted was to edit one file.

It would be nice if Mp3tag supported selective file editing. For instance, let's say I selected 3 files to edit in a folder and choose the mp3tag shell extension. I would like mp3tag to only load those 3 files in the browser window.

IIRC, Florian stated that this is not planned because MP3Tag works on a per-directory basis.
