Following the tests by @LyricsLover and @Doug_Mackie, I too found it surprising, based on your results, that Microsoft decided to restrict user flexibility regarding window width...

I always thought you could restrict the window down to the smallest tag size... 🤔

I tested it with Windows 7 and 10, and I got the same result...

Thanks for all the suggestions! A few things to add:

I see the same minimum width on Windows 10, and had it on 7 too — so it doesn't seem to be a Windows 11 thing, and I doubt Windows itself would restrict a component's width like this.

What I'm hoping for is a narrower panel while docked, left-justified, at any minimum width I specify — so the reclaimed space can go to more tag columns across a 1920 display.

On undocking: it's clever, but a floating panel overlays the window, so the columns don't gain the space — and it means keeping both the panel and the program window fixed in size to avoid constant reshuffling.

Would it be possible for the docked panel's minimum width to follow the widest enabled field, or to add a width setting? Appreciate the great software either way. Florian previously suggested that this space could be removed if all visible tag boxes were universally set to a shorter width, but the minimum behavior persists.

the unused space happens to be about the width of the property-list of the albumcover-picture. In my version under windows 10 pro 22H2 and mp3tag-Version 3.36.1 the same problem does not showup:

I was not able to find a way to change the appearance of the albumcover-picture(s) and its properties. I would suggest to place them underneath the picture and to stretch the Picture to the whole width of the panel. Maybe this could also solve this reported problem if it still exists.

I've adjusted the minimal Tag Panel width to allow for more narrow sizes with [Mp3tag v3.37-beta.1](https://community.mp3tag.de/t/455).
