# Tag(s) on WAV files

Hello --- I always thought than WAV files did not support tag, buit I just download a album in WAV format and to my surprise there were TAGS for each file in the zip
Is this a new addition to the layout/format of WAV files?

No. WAV files, which is a container, usually for PCM, always supported RIFF tagging. See:

However, this is quite the niche format to tag on because it's (mostly) an uncompressed file format and people tend to use compressed file formats (either lossy or lossless) tagging. However, it's common in DAW to store, not only standard tagging but also information such as indexes when composing. So, this is more something in use in record studios.
