When i´ve made all the filenames start in 01, 02 ect. so it will play correctly on my mp3 player, track 10 always plays after track 1, so the order looks like this

Track 01
track 10
track 02
track 03
track 04
track 05
track 06
track 07
track 08
track 09
track 11
track 12
track 13
track 14

what am i doing wrong?

If this is an accurate representation of the real data in the names then everything should be OK.
So either you show us a screenshot or you investigate yourself wether you replaced the digit `0` with the letter `O` - which leads to the shown result.

I´ve tried using the Action- Format value- Field:Title and Formatstring : $num(%track%,3) - %title%

it should be a zero, heres a screenshot

Everything looks OK in the screenshot.

Please be aware that the Windows Explorer interprets 3-digit numbers as octal values instead of decimal values.

ok, but when i put it in my mp3 player the order comes incorrectly, even though everywhere else it comes correctly, could it be something wrong with the player?

It could be that the player uses the order in which files got copied to the device.

Delete all the tracks on the device,
Sort them correctly in the windows explorer,
Select the files in the windows explorer
move the mouse cursor to the first file in the list and then, with the focus on the first file, drag&drop the files to the device.
This should start the transfer really with the first file.
Otherwise the file under the mouse cursor gets copied first.

This order is effectively random, from a listener's point of view. I believe this is a limitation of the FAT drive formatting; your car may recognize the SD card if it's formatted NTFS or something else, but it may not. Mine doesn't. My solution is to use a freeware called DriveSort. This will rewrite the file allocation table (which is where…

You do realize that you have to experiment with your local environment as no-one else has the files or the device and we cannot look over your shoulder.
In many cases, screenshots help.
And the available screenshot does not show anything out of the ordinary.

Please post the make and model of your player. Have you researched its requirements and characteristics? Those could be important.

It looks like the player is sorting alphabetically instead of numerically and is also omitting leading zeros, which I can't really imagine.

With a modern player, even in this price range, it shouldn't actually sort only according to the FAT order. However, you could check this order and also sort it if it's a FAT-based file system. There are some "ancient" utilities for this, such as Drivesort.

> **[Anerty's Lair - DriveSort](https://www.anerty.net/software/file/DriveSort/)**
>
> FAT Directory Tables sorting tool, useful for portable MP3 players or car MP3 players.

The display after loading in Drivesort should show you whether it matches your incorrectly played order.

Here are some other things you can try:

1. Leave out the numbering before the text in the Title field.
2. Put the track numbers at the beginning of the file name (with 1 leading zero before single-digit-numbers)
3. Change the Track field with leading zeros before single-digit numbers.
Converter: Tag-\> Tag
Field: TRACK
Format String: $num(%track%,2)

I must say, however, that if these measures should lead to success, the player is behaving in a truly unexpectedly irrational manner.

Tag -\> tag track $num(%track%,2) doesnt seem to work, and now when i try transfering it comes as 10, 1, 11, 2, 12 ect.

How would you normally put them in order? I´m using files from Bandcamp so they should all have the correct info on them

By which data does the player sort?
See e.g. this thread to see if there are settings in the player to sort:

For sorting and playing an album in correct order it would normally be sufficient to fill the tagfields:
ALBUMARTIST
ARTIST
ALBUM
TITLE
TRACK

There would be no need to add the track-number to the Filename or the title. As far as I can see from your screenshot all these requirements are met.

But you now have examine what your special player needs because it obviously does not care about "normally".

Do you play an **album** or a **folder** from the menu, when the player plays tracks not in order?

If nothing helps you could create a playlist (m3u-file) with mp3tag for each album. The player can use playlists.
