# Unable to save with just a cover change in v3.32

Hi.
When trying to save my mp3-files with an updated cover file (.jpg; 1500x1491; 237kB), I receive the message, that mp3-file cannot be written. Instead it gives me the choice to abort, try again, or ignore.
Any other changes to the mp3 work like a champ and can be saved as well. I even tried to reuse an existing jpg from a different album (that was used by MP3TAG on that album some years back), and I received the same message.
Any idea would be great.
PS: Win 10, with MP3TAG v3.32

Do you save your MP3s locally or in the cloud, using services such as OneDrive or Dropbox?
Do you know the last time it worked?

Thanks for reporting and investigating!
It looks like the latest Windows Updates (Win 10 KB5073724 and Win 11 KB5074109) broke increasing file size via `SetEndOfFile()` on file systems backed by cloud storage (e.g., OneDrive or Dropbox).
I've implemented a workaround for this and ask you to test this version in case you're affected by this bug in Windows:

Hi LyricsLover. Files are stored locally….again, updating title or album works fine. Propably 2 weeks ago, it was still working fine.

thanks for your uodate. I can now add covers to the albums again. Thias seems to be the fix. 🤟

It looks like this issue is now also acknowledged by Microsoft:

I just released Mp3tag v3.33 which includes the mitigation for the issue introduced by the January Windows Update.
Thanks again for reporting and thanks to everyone who confirmed the workaround to be working (also in the other topics on this). This kind of feedback always helps tremendously!

For those who are interested:
Microsoft has released a so called out-of-band (OOB) Update on January 24, 2026 for this issue:
