# Way to see version of Flac used to encode file?

Hello,

For FLAC files is there a way to see the version of the encoder used for the file e.g. 1.1.2, 1.1.3 etc?

Thanks Florian! I knew you'd have the answer.

Also In my column for Tags is there a way to say "if the tag is FLAC, show the %\_tool% otherwise show the %\_id3v2\_character\_encoding% value?

My current value for the Tag column is %\_tag% %\_id3v2\_character\_encoding% %\_tool%

Hi Paul,

you can use $if($eql(%\_extension%,mp3),%\_id3v2\_character\_encoding%,%\_tool%) to achieve this. Please also have a look at [this](https://docs.mp3tag.de/scripting) help topic for more scripting functions.

Thanks Florian, I just noticed that Flac 1.2.0 was out and so was converting all of my older files.
