So then try this on a small sample of files that have this colon, and that you have backed up. Make a change to the title fields, then use your typical settings to update the filename. You will still see the colon there instead of the slash. Now use Finder to seek that same new file, and note if it still shows the slash instead of the colon. If yes, you can confidently go forward knowing this difference exists.
