What have you done exactly to get this message?
If you speak German you can write your report here:

I tried to rename a file by its tag fields. The title tag had an an invalid character, then this message popped up. But my posting is about the error message not the error itself 😉

Usually, illegal characters are ignored unless you use $validate() or some other pre-processing. So it would still be interesting to see which original string caused this message.
A title like `t*i*t*l*e` would become "title" as the asterisk is an illegal character.

The German language file does not contain this message. So could it originate somewhere else? Like an Explorer substitute?

Thanks for reporting. I'll fix it to the next release.
