'Check for new version' says:
You are using the latest version Mp3tag v2.39n.
An update is not available.
Both statements are false.

It only checks for final releases, not for betas or other Development Builds.

Yup, that would explain the failure I'm reporting.
Suggestion: correct the two false statements.
