That depends on whether the file is an aac file or not and whether the file was taggable in the first place - or whatever could have been the matter with the file.

First of all, this is my first post, so I apologize in advance if Im posting at the wrong place or just being too noobish...
Thing is, Im having problems tagging raw AAC files.
Im creating mp4 files with nero aac encoder, then extracting the raw aac using mp4box 0.4.6, ending up with a .aac file.
Problem is mp3tag doesnt seem to be able to tag these .aac files... Am I missing something?
Just in case someone wonders, I do have to use raw aac, as my equipment doesnt accept mp4s.

I usually convert my mp3 to aac using NeroAAC before transferring them to my mobile. The tags written with Mp3Tag are not recognized by my mobile(nokia). I used Abander tag and it's working fine.
The thing to note that was Abander displayed ID3v2 tags. While Mp3Tag used APEv2. So maybe Mp3Tag doesn't allow ID3v2 tags for aac files that could be the problem..
Tested latest beta 2.45b and still same...
Also reading tags from mobile takes considerably more time than with other tag editors.... […
In general: AAC is best wrapped in an MP4 container.
