I downloaded this app to remove embedded album art from tracks. I've used the app to complete this function, but the album arts are still embedded in the track. If I put the tracks into MediaHuman audio converter the art thumbnails still show up, and if I then import those tracks into iTunes the art shows up there too.
So mp3tag can't do anything about the art that is obviously still there, because it doesn't "see" it.
I've seen advice about showing hidden items and showing system files, but nothing shows up when I show those things. Nothing appears, the folder with the files looks the same as it did before.
I'm at my wit's end with this. I used to be able to pop the tracks into audacity, and clearing the metadata would also clear any associated art. Since I updated audacity this no longer works for some reason, and I'm considering downgrading to the previous version if I can't get a workaround here.
How have you tested that in MP3tag?
I would suggest that you use the
filter: %_covers% PRESENT
which idealy should produce an empty list as there are no covers present.
As soon as that has been clearified, but pictures still appear, it would be a problem of the player's cache and/or database where images may be stored.
So: what does the filter in MP3tag reveal?
I guess this is sort of a moot point, because I did end up reverting to the old audacity due to structural changes and my workflow slowing down trying to adjust (I guess it's better to work faster than "smarter", since the changes objectively make things easier but I don't have time to unlearn my muscle memory), so now I can just as easily remove art that way.
Still curious why the art was sticking around after untagging it in mp3tag though.
Great. This means, on the other hand: you have a player problem. You would have to find out how to update the player's database and cache.
One way would be to rename the files slightly (e.g. with an added underscore at the end) and then see what the player displays.
