I use Actions to rename my album folders and then also the songs in them, which ensures all files in the original folder stay within the renamed folder.
My requests / questions are that I would like to include information from the audio files in my album folder name:
the extension of the audio files, such as FLAC, MP3, OGG, AAC, ISO (SACD etc. rips) etc., so I can easily see if this is a FLAC or MP3 album, for example; and
the same for the genre, i.e. be able to add to the album folder name the genre such as Rock, Pop etc.
I understand that the audio files may have different genres in them, and there may be both say .FLAC and .MP3 files present in the folder, so maybe just taking the file extension and the genre from the first audio file in the folder would be ok.
I am quite certain this can’t be achieved with current functionality, so this is a request for a new field that can be used through a token in folder renaming (when using Actions to rename) - hope this is the right place to put requests.
Great, thanks for your time to answer. I will have a look, and apologies if I overlooked an obvious answer! I think my reasoning was that for the album folder rename part of Action the rename (e.g. %artist% - %year% - %album% {%_extension%}, because it relates to the overall album info, MP3Tag would not which of the audio files in the folder should be the source of the _extension info. I have two rename Actions, one for the folder, and one for the audio files (e.g. %track% - %title%, to ensure that other files such as the cover.jpg move to the new folder when renamed - i.e. I don’t use the Tag → Filename approach, as then the non-audio files don’t get moved to the new folder. Your suggestion sounds good, I will go and give it a test, thanks again!
Thanks, just using the fields as is worked fine. Encountered some issues after but will be due to errors in my formula, if I get stuck I will ask for help again (it renamed only the first time, after making some changes to the formula renaming had no effect - but logically that will be because there is a problem in my formula).
I marked ohrenkino’s reply as the solution but your answer also basically provided the same solution, with some really useful additional info, thanks!
