As an educator I'm looking for a tool that will simply read in various format audio formats
and dump the contents in an intelligent fashion. I'm not interested in the music part of the file. I'm interested in the various tags, etc. type of data.
I'm interested in seeing what information various publishers embed and what gets transferred/lost
when creating other audio format files.
Is anyone aware of such a tool.

Found a great solution... it not only does audio tags but also photo tags...

well documented and great for educating yourself on tagging ... 
According to the documentation http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exifto...MPEG.html#Audio this tool will only recognize Bit 11 to 31 in mp3 (ID3). But there are tons of other possible content. Have a look here: http://www.id3.org/Developer_Information
