I make use of the LH Sidebar in MP3Tag when editing tags. If you select multiple tracks the fields in the sidebar present various options when not all the tracks have the same value. If the Album field (for instance) is inconsistent the field displays "Keep" - the default. The dropdown will give you options to make all the tracks adhere to one particular value, or blank them all.
That behaviour applies to most of the editable fields like Title, Artist, Album, Composer, Work etc.
However it does NOT apply to the Genre field. If your Genre setting is inconsistent across multiple tracks the field does say "Keep" as the default. But the dropdown does not give you the option of selecting between the various existing choices - rather it produces the list of all Genres configured in your installation of MP3Tag.
I have come across this as I have been putting some effort into making my Genres a bit more consistent - so if I had a preference it would be for the Genre dropdown to behave like all the others when in a multi-select situation (and show full list if a single track selected).
I have looked thru the Forums and see the that the issue has been raised before, for instance in 2013
In that thread one user suggests that there is a setting which may improve or fix that:
File > Options > Genres -> Tick option 'Show only user-defined genres'
However I don't see that option in the current version of MP3Tag v3.27a
Any advice on how to make the Genre field behave like the others?
Thanks
