Cannot edit music and add cover

this might be being stupid or something, but i cant edit or do some action while i want to add cover and change something my song file

i'm using the latest version 3.24

I do not really understand what you do.
This is my interpretation: while actions are running you want to modify something else.
Is this a correct assumption? If so: you would have to wait until one process has finished.
If my assumption is not correct: please describe step by step what you do.

In addition to:

You have loaded your song file into Mp3tag and selected it (clicked on it on the right side "File List")?
Without selecting at least one file, you can not edit metadata or add a cover to it.
