I don't know if this is a mp3tag issue. I was going to update the program, but it said that I hadn't closed the program. But I had, no activitity in the task manager. So I tried uninstalling the program first, but couldn't do that neither the usual way through windows. So I tried a third party program, and it somehow did that or at least only deleted the folder and files.
When I now try to install the new version it still says that I should close the program. But there is no program folder or files. So I googled and found out that there might be som registration keys from the old program that still prevents the new from being installed. I tried to look manually for the key but couldnät find any named mp3tag.
Does anyone know how I could solve this? I have windows 10
Is there a specific name of the key that I could look for that does not include the name mp3tag?
I tried to repair the reg index through ccleaner, but it didn't help
Sorry, no help available. You seem to have messed up your system thoroughly, so it could be anything.
Windows 10 has the option to "Refresh" the system. Perhaps that is the first step.
That's what I was afraid of. Just that I read that old unremoved register key can ake it impossible to reinstall a program, but that one can search for the register key itself and delete it manually. But then one need the name of it, if the file doesn't contain anything with, in this case, mp3tag, to distinguish it from all other keys. And the article also said that sometimes the developer of the program can give you the name of the register key.
I really don't want to reinstall the whole Win10 and all other program, settings etc just for this program. Then I will have to start using another tag program, evn though I really like mp3tag.
Oh well: have you tried to get a portable installation in a completely different location? A portable installation does not write anything to the registry (if that should be the cause).
