Can't write ID3v1 only

#1

My MP3 HiFi (Panasonic) only recognises ID3v1 alone (not if also ID3v2).

So I want to change my collection to ID3v1 only, deleting ID3v2 and APE tags.

I have mp3 tag settings :

Read ID3v1, ID3v2, APE
Write ID3v1
Remove ID3v2, APE

With these settings cannot change tag.
To change tag I have to enable Write ID3v2. But that writes an ID3v2 tag.

What's going on here?

You probably have to remove ID3v2 and APEv2 tags first or just disable reading of them.

Thanks.
Yes I've managed to do it in two passes. First writing both ID3v1 and ID3v2, then remove the ID3v2 tag. At least I think I have - I've thought myself into a state of confusion over this so I'm going to leave it for a few days!

I ran into the problem of not being able to write ID3v2 tags because APE tags were present too, and if it was not for this post I may still be wondering hat was going wrong. I find mp3tag is too quick to report that operations have successfully completed when in fact they have not (similar problem with the leading zeros on WMA files). If is obviously a known issue so can't something be done about it (If nothing else a message thats says remove APE tags first).

I assume that ID3v2 tags were written correctly but you had reading of APEv2 tags enabled.

Mp3tag reads tags in this priority: APEv2 > ID3v2 > ID3v1, so please just disable reading of APEv2 tags if you don't use it.
