Can't write tag back to file

Hello community,

I rarely use the tool. Yesterday it happened again. There were two updates in a row, yesterday to 3.25, today to 3.26... So far, so good.

Today I wanted to pull a stack of around 1400 files and add/edit the tags "Artist", "Genre" and "Album Artist".

So I pulled all the files into the tool, marked them all, entered the correct data on the left (ACDC, METAL, ACDC) and saved.

It is obvious that the files are also being written; the disk shows clear activity, and it takes a while. But after updating or closing and reopening, absolutely nothing has changed in the edited tags.
I also use only 10 files and do the same... Same bad result...

The last time I used the tool was probably 2 years ago, and I did pretty much the same thing. It always worked...

Is this a BUG?!? Or am I just too stupid?

Could you check if you have APE tags in the files?
And then check which tag version you read and write in Ctrl-O Options>Tags>Mpeg?
If you read APE tags but do not write them, you do not see the updates.
Switch off reading APE tags and see whether the changes are there F5.

... ahhh, ok... Some have APE tags. Over the thumb around 10%
I will try that and come back with the result.

Danke Dir :+1:

Ok... I have set it now like this:

Read: ID3v1
Write: ID3v1
Remove: ID3v1, ID3v2

Then drag'n'drop all files in, see that APE is shown in col "Tag", ignore that, set all I like to have and write it back...
So now all with an ID3v1 or 2 are changes, bou not the APE's.
How can I simple kill all the APE tags and replace them with ID3v2? I think that's the common problem here...

For normal operation I would set it to:
Read: V1, V2
Write: V2.3 UTF16
Remove: V1, APE, V2.3

Please note that APE tags are sometimes written by replaygain programs -so you might want to keep that data.
To get rid of the APE tags:
Set the options to read and delete APE, all other tag versions off.
Load the files.
Set the filter to
%_tag% HAS APE
select the files.
Select Edit>Cut (Tag)
Reset the Options to read, write and remove V1, V2, but no APE
Reload the files.
If you still have set the filter, the file list should now stay empty.
Remove the filter and check the files and their tag data.

Ok, ty a lot...
I have try this way and that works like you say... But then I haven't any tag information in the former APE files anymore.
So I think the way have to be improved with some steps to copy the APE informations to the v2 before deleting it...
But I have no idea howto if I'm right with that...

PS: I don't use ReplayGain or anything else...

OH WAIT!!!
I think I have made a mistake... Shitt :confounded:
I start over... Luckily I have worked on a copy of the files and not at the original... puhhhh

WOW ... As soon as you do it right, it works :innocent: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Many thanx again for your help. To figure out such a problem, I really need more practice with the tool.
