I am a long time MP3Tag user, windows and linux desktop user, familiar with the applications associated with sound files, video files and conversion tools. I am hoping there is a way to
Edit or < blank > the Description and LongDescription meta fields that I see most frequently on files that have been 'born' on Youtube.
You can also see the information from Mediainfo tool as; example.txt (14.8 KB)
I would like to remove these and the comments fields because the info will show in my Plex History or on any sharing of the view history in tools like Slack. Example from Plex also attached.
Thanks and if anyone knows of another tool that can work offline to clean this particular set of tags, let me know how you worked thru it!
Instead of all that cleaning, I suggest that you consider downloading files like this from youTube itself.
Why? Because youTube does not use tags of any type. And it routinely deletes tags from submissions, presumably to reduce file size. I can't say that youTube always deletes all tags but I have yet to see an Mp4 download that had more than one tag.
After I downloaded the URL shown in your Comment tag, none of the Russian tags you show appeared in Media Info. Nor does my Mp3tag Extended Tags view show any Russian tags. And the video file name was now in English, not Russian.
You do not mention your download source for this file. To download these videos yourself from youTube, you will need to install a downloader application. There are many available.
Hi Doug_Mackie, my request is primarily for files from YouTube itself. What is your routine? Can you upload your MediaInfo export as I did for that file?
My routine is to simply paste a youTube URL (in this case www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aMgUQiPMCA) into my download application. The download is then automatic. No online sites are used and I usually do not have a browser open.
I understand that you think you got the original youTube file, but clearly you did not. youTube does not use tags and surely they did not add any Russian ones. Someone else (perhaps the "Love Yourself" company) did that.
Attached is a screen shot of my Media Info report for this youTube download. Note that no tags are present, which is to be expected. Note also that the file name is different.
Hi Doug_Mackie, thanks for your explanation about how your process works. Unfortunately, the process is the same for me and I get very different results.
You have mentioned that YouTube does not use tags and that I must be getting 'third party media' somehow.
That looks fine, with no signs of Russian meddling. But I am wondering why your download software is "unnamed". I used the 4 K Video Downloader for my tests.
Earlier you wrote:
I do not believe that our procedures and our software could be exactly the same. This is not Voodoo — there must be a difference!
Thanks Doug_Mackie, for your continued assistance. I did use the tool you use and I did NOT get any extra tags or description fields in those videos. Tested with Plex and also no extra ANNOYING descriptions there either. So yes YOUR software tool doesn't include the extra information that my software tool does. emphasized text
Now to get back to the original request, do you know how to remove the extra information that appears in the mp4/mp3 files?
Hi Ohrenkino, I did have single file success when opening one of the affected files in mp3Tag and choosing ALT - T. There WAS a description field in there! After removing, then saving, opening in Plex and Media Player Classic 64, the description information was removed successfully. I just tried multi file processing too and it was successful on 73 files. Took about 35 seconds to write to 73 files on a network share. I think this is about as good as its going to get. Thanks everyone!
