Convert ID3v2.2 (ID3v2.2) to ID3v2.3 (ID3v1 ID3v2.3)

#1

I converted, using some audio software called Switch, 4700+ tracks from various bitrates (MP3 320, 192 CBR/VBR and FLAC) to Mp3/128CBR. However not many of the tags came across on conversion. This could be a problem with Switch. They sem to be looking into it. But in the meantime I have over 4000 Mp3/128CBR tracks with no tags. Have to srick with Switch as it is the only software that will go through my file structure, C:\User\Album\track, and convert into the same file structure; everything else just gives me 4000+ files in one folder!

I do not need very many tags anyway. Just Title, Artist, Album, Track No and Genre.

I have brought the source directory into Mp3tag and found that the following tags are found in the tracks:-

ID3v2.3 (ID3v1 ID3v2.3)
ID3v2.2 (ID3v2.2)
ID3v2.2 (ID3v1 ID3v2.2)
FLAC (FLAC)
(ID3v1) one only

Only those marked ID3v2.3 (ID3v1 ID3v2.3) have come across into the Mp3/128CBR folders. The majority, ID3v2.2 (ID3v2.2), FLAC (FLAC) and the few ID3v2.2 (ID3v1 ID3v2.2) did not.

Can Mp3tag convert all the ID3v2.2 (ID3v2.2), FLAC (FLAC) and the ID3v2.2 (ID3v1 ID3v2.2) to ID3v2.3 (ID3v1 ID3v2.3) tags?

Any advice appreciated

Command-line params or new tool?

You can convert the tags if you select the files and press Ctrl+S
Tags are saved in the format selected in Options > Tags
But for flac files, only flac tags (these are the official tags for this format) are supported.

I'm sure there is other software that can do the same as Switch (e.g. foobar2000), you could ask in an audio forum or in the off topic section for advice.

I have a similar problem. I am using v2.35 (but I can upgrade anytime if needed). Currently all my tags are id3v2.4 but WMP11 supports only up to id3v2.3. By default, mp3tag (v2.35) writes id3v.23 which is great. But is there a way to convert/downgrade tags from v2.4 to v2.3? Is there a way to specify which minor version mp3tag should use?

I explained that in my first answer.

I am not ignoring your reply.

I am investigating foobar2000

Thank you for telling me about Foobar2000. Converted all my files and preserved tag info.

Now all I have to do is make sure that the tag info is the way I want it.

Which says: "Tags are saved in the format selected in Options > Tags"
I am talking about minor version v2.3 versus v2.4; not about version v1 versus v2.

Haven't you seen the entries
ID3v2.4 utf-8
ID3v2.3 utf-16
ID3v2.3 Iso-8859-1

They are in "Options > Tags > Mpeg" to be exactly if that was the problem.
