Copying various individual files

I have a large collection of MP3s, catalogued via MP3. They are all saved in one music folder, which I have on my PC, Mobile Phone, MP3 Player, Backup Hard Drives respectively.

I would like to achieve the following in the shortest time, and with the minimum invasive procedure to each database.

In my 'Genre' field, I want to rename all the entries which I have originally labelled 'Orch', to 'Orch/Ens'. This involves probably no more than 1,000 separate tag entries.

On my main database, on PC, I have already made the alteration to all affected tags.

How can I copy just these altered tags to my other devices, without the need to copy the whole database across for each one.

I have tried initially copying new amended database from PC to Mobile, in the hope that only those files that had actually been amended are saved, without affecting all those which have not changed.

I seem to have tried both copying options where I thought that only changed files would get copied, which, I thought, would significantly speed up the copying process, but either way it looks like it is seeking to copy the whole database en bloc, an almost 5-hour-long operation.

I'm sure it must be possible, and I'm merely missing something obvious, but any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Many thanks, in anticipation!

You could create a column with the modification date, select only the files of a certain modification date and then use Edit>Copy... to copy files to the dedicated location.
Or you could filter for all files that have

and copy them in a similar way.

Probably too late for this effort. But I use a syncing program that only updates files that have changed since the previous refresh. You can set your main library as the source and the destination as your other devices. One pairing for each device is likely necessary. These pairings will need to be established before you make any edits. You could try to set them now. Then filter for the changes you recently made in mp3tag and resave them all with new dates.

I use SyncToy, a freebie from MS that is no longer "officially" supported but is out there in the internet wild. I'm sure there are plenty of other options that work in a similar way. I only make metadata edits to my main PC library and update from there. In my case I have six different pairs that I refresh when necessary for my devices and backup drives.

Ah yes, SynchToy. I used it for many years. Eventually I changed over to SynchBack Free, which is fully supported (2025), has a lot more features, and is absolutely reliable. Highly recommended.

Just to say a regular 'thank you' to those who posted excellent advice on how I could solve a recent query I had.

All thanks to a number of members who contributed their knowledge and experience,

Great software - really friendly support - what more is there?! Thanks! :+1::+1:
