Is it possible to simply create a combined playlist of several different albums, e.g. fast, slow, reggae

You can create playlists for all displayed files or only the selected ones.
If you have the criteria

somewhere in the files (as tag data) you can filter for it and display only the files that match the criteria and then create a playlist from these displayed files.
