I have several hundred music tracks, but no album name, I want to create an album name based on the path name, automatically with an action if possible, using the last part of the pathname....e.g. road trip best hits CD3
can someone help please
i thought i would do it manually but cant copy the pathname as text......but an action would be so much better
thank you
Try Convert>Filename-Tag
Format string: %album%\%dummy%
I am referring to oath name not filename
The explorer path

A fully or partially qualified filename also includes the path.
Have you tried it?
And if you don't believe me, them have a look at the documentation:
I still don't think I'm explaining myself correctly
I am referring to the Windows explorer path name,e.g. C:my best music/Bestnumberrones/CD3
So I would want to name the album CD3, the final part of the PATHname.
Thanks
Please, please, please - try it.
Ok will try tomorrow
Really can't see how filename has anything to do with the windows path
But I will try it
Need the last part of the path will thus do that
Thanks
Instead of asking the same question repeatedly, you could just try the solution provided by @ohrenkino.
If you would use the Convert Filename -> Tag function
you would immediately see how it works for your windows path and how the Convert Filename -> Tag is using the documented
Import Tags from File and Folder Names
Import Parts of the File Name to the Tag
Importing tags from filenames and directory names can be done by using Convert → Filename - Tag.
Folder names = directory names = path names = windows path
So please stop asking if it "will thus do that" and try it by yourself with your own real pathnames.
If it doesn't work, feel free to ask again showing us your real example and the Format string you used.
so how do i select the text before last part of the path name...?
Seriously?
(and I have to write 20 characters...)
i tried Try Convert>Filename-Tag
Format string: %album%\%dummy%
but i need the text before the last /
e.g. that's the best music/cd1
i need that's the best music as the album
If you need 2 folder levels up from the filename (which you did not say before), then try
Format string: %album%\%dummy%\%dummy%
thanks, will try.........I thought all these albums were fully populated albums etc but suddenly only have filenames
???
For what do you need the import from the path if the album title was already there?
Thank you
That worked perfectly
Cheers
I don't have the album info, that's why I planned to use the path to add an album title
Going to try music brainz Picard hopefully will populate all from the database
