Hello everyone, I haven't been able to figure out how to get a message before deleting data. I imagine it's possible...
Where have you looked so far?
The best place to start is Options>Messages
Thanks for your quick reply, @ohrenkino.
I looked in Options > Messages, but I'm not sure if I should check the "After delete" option.
If I run tests and it doesn't work, I'm afraid of losing my data.
Perhaps a quick look at the documentation supplies the missing information:
Thanks for the link, @ohrenkino.
I read the information on the page you linked to. All those boxes are already automatically checked in the Mp3tag programming, except for the first three, which aren't related to my request for a message before data deletion. And there's no message before deletion in Customize Columns...
Is it possible to have a message before deletion? Do you have any ideas?
It is not quite clear do me under which circumstances you want to see a message:
If you modify the number or content of a column definition during customizing?
Or an extra option to trigger a warning as soon as anything gets modified in a column?
Please note that removing a column from the file list does not change anything in the existing files. The data is simply not displayed any more in the file list.
Hi @ohrenkino,
To answer your question, this has already happened to me in Customize Columns...
While pressing the "Move up" and "Move down" buttons to arrange my data in the order I want it to appear on the screen, I accidentally clicked "Delete" right above "Move up" and without warning, I lost my data...
So my question is simple: is there a way to get a warning message if I click "Delete" before Mp3tag deletes the data?
The simple answer is: currently not.
The only safeguard would be to save the configuration first, then modify and after success, save again
Hello @ohrenkino,
If I understand correctly what you wrote, it's impossible to get a warning message if I click the "Delete" key before Mp3tag deletes the data…
That's exactly what I do.
Since I accidentally lost some data, when I've properly configured my settings, I make a backup that I can retrieve if I make a mistake. I have other computers that allow me to access the file if I forget to save while I'm editing in Customize Columns…
It seems to me that it would be helpful to have a message before the data is deleted; it would save us time… ![]()
I'm taking this opportunity to ask you, @Florian, that it would be great to have this command in the "Customize columns" section...
What do you call data in your case?
If you delete a column you don't loose data of your files. What you loose is the display of the column that you can easily recover with just adding it again.
When you recognize that you accidently pressed "Delete" instead of "Move up" you can just cancel and nothing get#s changed.
Thanks @poster for your help…
What I like to do is sometimes combine two or more commands in the same cell…
Example: Cover (MIME)
%_covers% %_cover_mimetype%
Result:
1 image/jpeg
I hadn't thought of that, you're right. If I click on "Move Up" and "Move Down," then accidentally click on "Delete," I click on "Cancel" and go back to the Customize Columns… the data is still there!
Thanks for the tip!
