Embedded attached picture (covert art) questions

Hi,
As you know we can attach one or several embedded pictures (aka covert art) into MP3 and MP4 files.

But what is the max resolution in pixels and what is the max file size in kB allowed for such images ? Are these limits the same for MP3 and MP4 ?

What is the standard location for these embedded attachements ? At the beginning or at the end of the file ? Which location is the most compatible one with older media players and hardware devices ?

Sorry, I can't help you. I am afraid that you have to read the MP3 standard yourself and then dig through any kind of specification for current and older media players which e.g. Microsoft would certainly be only too glad to publish.

I think it would be helpful to ask very specific questions that can be answered shortly instead of a global one that asks for a dissertation.
