When importing tag data, the checkbox that sets whether or not to add the cover image to a file is checked or unchecked based on if it was checked or unchecked on the last run. I would like to propose an option where cover art is embedded if the files do not already contain cover art.
99% of the time, if the file already has cover art I don’t want another copy imported from the remote source; and if it doesn’t have cover art then I do want it imported. Yes, I can check and uncheck the existing checkbox manually, but it’s easy to forget and then either have to re-edit the tags to remove one of the images, or re-run the tag importer, or manually add the cover from another source, etc…
It could be fully automatic: If the local files do not have cover art, embed the image from remote tag source.
That doesn’t help. I’m not looking for files that do or do not have art, I’m talking about the initial act of adding/importing metadata to new files. Anything that makes use of a filter like that is only more complicated than my current workflow.
... and if the found cover is better than the embedded one, that would be ignored? Wouldn't an easy decision like "now I want the cover, now I don't" on a case-to-case basis would be the quickest way? I would think so.
And for all other ones (the ones without cover) the default setting should work: embed the cover.
This isn’t about comparing and choosing the best image. That always has to be done manually.
That isn’t the default setting. The default setting is whatever you chose to use last. If you’re going through hundreds of albums and importing tag data, you’re not going to remember every time, “ok, this album doesn’t already have embedded art, so i need to make sure the cover art checkbox is checked”.
Op, you're talking about the Tag Sources dialog, correct? After you have selected the best match from the search results, you want the checkbox for the album art to automatically deselect if your files have embedded art, and automatically select if they do not, correct?
Yes, that’s basically the idea. I wasn’t specifically thinking of it as automatically checking/unchecking the box, but that works too and is probably the easiest to implement.
