Files are deleted after renaming/converting

For some reason MP3 Tag has started deleting files immediately after I rename them. If I change tags there are no issues, only when I convert/rename. If I click Undo they reappear. wtf?

Do you rename your files to another directory name which is not the same as the current directory or the name of a subdirectory?

What format is this? Mp3? FLAC? Some other format?

Could you please tell as real example like
OLD: C:\temp\test.mp3
NEW after rename: C:\OtherTemp\OtherTest.mp3

When you state the files are deleted, do you mean the line from the file list in mp3tag, or the file itself is actually deleted from the drive location?

Same directory, just renumbering, then renaming. If mp3 tag is viewed next to Explorer I can watch them disappear, they will reappear if undone. It started happening today.

Gone from drive location, they don't go to the recycle bin, though.

Thats strange.

To reproduce this unwanted behaviour:
Could you please give us a step by step instruction how we can simulate this?
Especially the exact renaming step would be interesting.

To be sure:
You rename the file in Mp3tag, right?
You don't rename it in Windows Explorer and watch the file list how it reacts in Mp3tag?

I'm putting together a CD for my car, something I do all the time. I choose certain songs from an album and copy them (FLAC) to a folder called 'CD For Car' and convert to WAV. Since it's only these certain tracks, they are numbered 1, 4, 5, 8, and 9. In the CD For Car folder I select all tracks, right click into MP3 Tag > Ctrl+A > Ctrl+K > Enter to renumber. Ctrl+A (again to select all) > 'Convert' > Tag - File Name > %track% %artist% - %title%.

The files are renamed, they disappear immediately. I've searched for them with no luck. I'm gonna try to re-install.

You rename the 5 WAV files in Mp3tag in the above example and then they disappear from the file list?

A refresh with F5 doesn't show them again?
Your folder \CD For Car is empty after the use of the autonumbering-wizard (CTRL + K)?

Ali sa like these are moving to another folder somewhere. Maybe even a different drive? What does your renaming look like? Screenshots would be helpful.

Do you load the files after or prior to conversion into MP3tag?

I've found the issue. Sometimes I label my folders using alt+255 for a space instead of underscores so it looks like this:

For some reason this morning, after doing it this way for years, it decided it wasn't going to accept those spaces as legit characters anymore.
