Finding similar data in tag fields

The scenario is artist "Ben E King" and "Ben E.King"

I know the files can be sorted on fields but i'm sure this is a problem everyone has

I only want to find the close matches

Thanks

Any kind of detection of similarities would be very user-driven.
MP3tag does not know anything about the data in the next or the previous file.
So, in MP3tag it is not possible to compare the contents of fields between files.

If you suspect that something like "Ben E King" and "Ben E. King" or "King, Ben E." is scattered across your collection, then a filter might help:

artist HAS king AND artist HAS Ben

should show a lot of similar data.

There is the program "Similarity" that allows some kind of duplicate search with fuzzy criteria. For some versions you have to pay.

Thank you, and would that be how i would enter it in the filter field

Yes.
Or to be absolutely sure:

%artist% HAS king AND %artist% HAS Ben

(The important bit is that the keywords IS, MATCHES, HAS, AND, NOT, OR are entered in CAPITALS. Otherwise the filter treats these words as literals and not as operators).

Yes.
Or to be absolutely sure:

%artist% HAS king AND %artist% HAS Ben

(The important bit is that the keywords IS, MATCHES, HAS, AND, NOT, OR are entered in CAPITALS. Otherwise the filter treats these words as literals and not as operators. The filter criteria are not case-sensitive. So "Ben" and "ben" are treated the same).
