Folder visible in player but not in MP3tag

I want to delete a particular folder displayed by my player.
However when viewing the player's directory on my pc that particular folder is not listed, nor does it appear in the list of folders within Mp3tag (v3.36.1) under the Change Directory.

An AI query I made gave the instruction to "Go to Options → Directories and enable Subfolders."

However when I navigate to Options → Directories the only box to enable/check is "Subdirectories." I do not see "Subfolders."

The response also instructed to "Check the Filter box in the file list — remove any hidden characters." I have not been able to discover or locate any box labeled "Filter" within Mp3tag.

This issue is only occurring to one folder out of 139 other folders on my player.

Thanks for any suggestions,

SnowyYogi

It is strange that this folder doesn't appear in your PC's Explorer. Is it possible it is a hidden folder? Make sure you enable Explorer to display Hidden and System folders then take another look.

mp3tag will not be able to display a folder that cannot be located by Windows.

Thanks.

Done. Went to View -> Show -> and checked 'Hidden Items.'

Unfortunately, no change.

Don't know if it's relevant but reason I want to delete this particular folder is when attempting to play a song/track from this folder/album, the player (AGPTEK M3) gives error message "File format not supported." This err occurs for all files/tracks within that folder.

If the explorer cannot see the folder, then MP3tag cannot see that folder also.
MP3tag uses the explorer functions to access files and folders.
The filter has no influence when selecting a new folder.

It looks to me like it is no MP3tag problem but something in the file system or within your player which phantasizes about a folder that does not exist.

Perhaps it is worthwhile to check the file system on your device with means supplied by the OS and see if the folder visibly returns

Perhaps these are only leftover in that player's library, but actually do not exist in the file system, causing the playback error. Does this player have the option to delete files?

If both Windows and mp3tag cannot see the folder or files, there is nothing they can do.

The delete file function is only available when that file is being played (players I've had in the past by the SanDisk brand worked the same way).

But that option is not accessible when within this particular folder, since selecting any file immediately results in "File format not supported" error.

Frustrating.

The suggestion were as follows:

  • check the file system
  • update the player's library

and then see if anything has changed.

Is you player on a different device or is it part of Windows?

The only other option may be to have the player rebuild the library. This is usually a setting somewhere in the player options. Rebuild, rescan, restore - something along those lines.

Without an option like above, if the device is Android based you can delete the app cache and app data folder to force it to restart from scratch. This is the brute force method if all else fails.

Thank you for the suggestions. I appreciate the offered help.

Yes, the player is a separate device (AGPTEK brand, model M3).

Unfortunately I am not familiar with how to check file systems. Scanning the player's owner manual and the options under the player's 'Settings' I saw no reference or instructions on how to check the file system.

I am also not clear regarding the suggestion to update the player's library. Would that be transferring/synching/downloading some other folder (album) from my pc to the player?

Regardless, its a moot point now. Under the player's Settings was the option to format the device. Selecting this action warns that all data would be lost but I was ok with this as I had backed-up the player to an external hard drive several days ago.

However now when I plug player into the pc, it recharges the player but also no longer recognizes the player so am unable restore it from backup.

Under the player's Settings I also looked for an option such as 'rebuild', 'rescan', or 'restore', but found nothing.

I may have to accept shopping/ordering a new player.

I want to thank everyone for their time offering suggestions.

Best regards to all.

For Android devices, the USB mode can be set. The default is to recharge it. But also the "MTP" (media transfer protocol) can be set.
That should make the device visible again.
Although ... the manual says:

4. Import and Transfer Music
Connect the computer via the USB cable. Copy the music and other files you need to transfer in the computer, and then paste in the player, or just drag and drop the music files or folders directly when connected to computer.

Or there are dedicated transfer utitlities available for that player.
But all this would be questions for the player's support.
