Freedb not working as well as formerly, or just me?

Hi. I've been using mp3tag for a couple of years now, and though I don't use it often, I have found the method of album looking of "Tag Sources" and "freedb" to be almost always perfect. However, just in the past month or two I've been striking out completely with that method. I suppose it's possible that the albums I'm looking up just aren't in the database (or are there under a different name), but maybe I'm doing something wrong or maybe there's a problem with mp3tag. Questions:

  1. Has anything changed in mp3tag, or in the way mp3tag connects to freedb, that might be causing my problems, and if so, do you have a fix?
  2. Has anyone else been having this problem? (If not, I'm going to assume it's "user error", namely my problem.

Thoughts?

You could use one of your old albums as a test and see if the query then works.
And to answer 1. : no, not that I know of
If you have problems with freedb, consider to use a different web source. I think that the ones for discogs are well maintained.

Hmmm. I tried what you suggested and tested mp3tag on some of my old albums. Got mixed results, which one might expect except that I've had such consistently good results with freedb in the past. Bottom line, it doesn't seem to be working as well as in the past.

On your advice, I also tried Discogs, but found that to be even less effective.

Is anyone else having this issue?
