I have created a simple tool - nothing fancy - just a quick release of an idea - maybe a one shot.

This "Mp3tagGetFormatStrings" tool extracts user created format strings out of Mp3tag filter- and convert-dialogs and saves them to a text file.

This tool is freeware without any warranty. Tested with Mp3tag v2.45d on Windows XP SP3. Use at your own risk.

Installation instructions:

Make sure to install the "Mp3tag" application made by Florian Heidenreich before running this tool.
This tool "Mp3tagGetFormatStrings.exe" expects that the "Mp3tag" application is properly installed and that there exist a user related "%AppData%\Mp3tag\data" folder.

Put this "Mp3tagGetFormatStrings.exe" file into a new folder with a name of your will and run it.
When "Mp3tagGetFormatStrings.exe" file runs the first time, it extracts two helper runtime module files (*.dll) from its own - this is normal and has no risk.

The user will be asked by dialog to search for the installation location of "Mp3tag.exe".
For later usage, the "Mp3tag.exe" install path will be stored into a ini text file, which is stored in the same folder where this tool is located.

The resulting text file, which contains the format strings, will be stored in the user related "%AppData%\Mp3tag\data" folder.
At end, an Explorer window will pop up in this folder.

And please take into account and keep in mind, that Mp3tagGetFormatStrings is a GUI control program, that means:
While Mp3tagGetFormatStrings is running: !!! Hands off from keybord and mouse. !!!

Note:
There is still a quirk in the moment, when Mp3tag is launched by Mp3tagGetFormatStrings and Mp3tag just receives it's update info message from the Internet.
The upcoming update dialog cannot be handled at this time.
Appropriate workaround is: close Mp3tag and close Mp3tagGetFormatStrings, process the Mp3tag update, then start Mp3tagGetFormatStrings again.

Hallo DetlevD,

vielen Dank für Deine erachtlichen Beiträge. Es ist für mich immer lobenswert auf die Hilfe von Dir zurückzugreifen.
Leider sind viele Beiträge in englischer Sprache, so auch dieses.
Mein Englisch ist nicht sehr gut und ich nuß zumeist auf viele Beiträge verzichten, da mein Browser bei den speziellen Fachausdrücken kapituliert.
Es wäre lobenswert, diese Beschreibung von GetMp3tagFormatStrings auch in deutscher Sprache, hier in das Forum zu bringen.
Vielen Dank für Deine Arbeit hier im Forum.

Habe folgende Fehlermeldung!

Versuche den Screenshot mitzusenden, funktionierte beim letzten mal leider nicht.

Vielleicht, ist ja etwas damit anzufangen.

Ja, hier ist der internationale Forensektor in englischer Sprache.
Ausnahmsweise antworte ich in deutscher Sprache.

Die Fehlermeldung zeigt an, dass das Tool GetMp3tagFormatStrings von einem neu gestarteten Mp3tag.exe Prozess keine gültige "Processnummer" und demzufolge keine gültige "Fensternummer" zurückerhalten hat.
Ich frage mich: warum dieser Fehler?
Vielleicht laufen zwei Mp3tag.exe Prozesse gleichzeitig, aber wieso?
Gibt es vielleicht noch einen Mp3tag.exe Prozess (z. B. noch sichtbar in der Prozessliste im Taskmanager), der voher "abgestürzt" war (oder mehrere)?
Bitte prüfe das bei deiner Maschine.
Tritt dieser Fehler auch nach einem Neustart deiner Maschine auf, ohne Mp3tag jemals selbst oder automatisch gestartet zu haben?

Hallo DetlevD,

danke für die Arbeit! Habe das mit dem Taskmanager überprüft, es wurde kin 2. Task in den Prozessen angezeigt.
Auch ein Neustart zeigte mir das gleiche Problem.
Habe jetzt die letzte Vers. installiert, allerdings ohne Mp3tag zu deinstallieren.
Anbei der Screenshot und der Error.log

Hoho, wer hat denn etwas von Mp3tag De-Installation gesagt?!?!?
Die Voraussetzung zur Benutzung von "GetMp3tagFormatStrings.exe" ist, dass Mp3tag korrekt installiert ist.

Danke für den Error Report, werde ich mir 'mal genauer anschauen.
In der Zwischenzeit kannst du eine leicht modifizierte Version 1.01c herunterladen, und mir den damit erzeugten Error Report zusenden an, dann direkt an:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.

In der Zwischenzeit habe ich das Progrämmle auf anderen XP Maschinen laufen lassen, ohne Probleme.
Es wird sich in deinem Fall vermutlich um eine etwas ganz besonders ungewöhnliche Konstellation von Maschine und Benutzer :wink: handeln.

Hallo DetlevD,
ich schrieb doch, letzte Installation von deinem kleinen Progrämmchen "GetMp3tagFormatStrings.v101" habe ich heruntergeladen und installiert. Natürlich weis ich, dass ich mp3tag nicht deinstalliert werden muß, sonst konnte eine Installation gar nicht erfolgen.
Es wird ja der Programm-Ordner bei der Installation abgefragt.

Es ist immer wieder erstaunlich, was aus diesem mp3tag Programm alles machbar ist!

da schließe ich mich doch glatt an mit dem zusatz ein Glück für uns User solche Leute onBoard zu haben.

Das Tool läuft 1a auch mit MP3TAG 2.46 !

Sebastian, thank you for the report.

The crux is, that I have no W7 machine at hand.
GetMp3tagFormatStrings might have timing problems on rather slow or too fast machines,

The error report, you've send me, shows that Mp3tag has been already started, but the "Filter" dialog window was not loaded at the time the error occurred.

The only thing I can do is to give Mp3tag a few more seconds to establish itself.
I've just released GMFS v1.03.
Please try itnout and give feedback by forum private mail or standard email.

is there a way to re-import the textfile into Mp3Tag after i edit it (after i delete unnecessary ones and re-order others).

Yes, there might be a way, I did a few steps into this direction already, it is rather complicated, because of the Mp3tag user language interface and some closed cfg-file and Mp3tag dialog styles and because of the lack of time and ... will say: do not wait for a solution, maybe some other coder steps in.
