Hello,
I've been importing some Box Sets into my music library and when I import metadata from Discogs or MusicBrainz they occasionally contain disc titles. I would like to have these disc titles appear as a column in mp3Tag when reviewing my music library but haven't been able to figure out how to show the tags. When I check the Extended tags I do see the DISCTITLE field filled in but can't figure out how to display it as a column. I've been able to customize my column display via View --> Custimize columns but then get stuck trying to figure out the correct fieldname value.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
To be 200% sure for this specific case, you would have to open such a file in a Hex-Editor or Notepad++ and search for "Sgt. Pepper Sessions". Then you would see what kind of tag is really used in your file.
There seems to be some different writings for this specific tag.
Thank you. I really appreciate the quick responses. Below is a screen shot of the blank column and the field settings I used. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I tried viewing a file using the HEX Editor tool but I really couldn't understand what I was looking at. I pasted a portion below that references "Disc Title" if that is helpful.
There should be a preset for disc titles like every other tag. I went crazy trying to add it.
There's nowhere in the extended tags options that says 'disctitle'.
The average user does not know what the hell is hex.
You can just press Alt+T on one of your songs including content for "disc title" and then you see the name of this tag.
The same name can be used for a new field in the Tag Panel or for a new column.
This process works for every "new" tag you want to see in the Tag Panel or in a new column.
The presets only include the most used tags. There are many more that you can type in by your self easily.
BTW:
You can choose as Name whatever you want.
The important names are in Value and Field.
They have to be exactly written as in your existing tags (for example with or without space).
There is no need for a hex editor in most cases.
The OP already showed the correct Tag name in his first post:
It is essential to use exactly this name "DISC TITLE" in this example.
(not DISCTITLE or any other spelling)
According to the Hydrogen Audio tag reference list, neither "Disk Title" nor "DiskTitle" is supported for any audio file type. So no wonder then that Mp3tag does not offer it.
It is just not feasible to imagine every possible tag name a user may add to their library. The list contains all of those that are part of the somewhat standard set of the fields from mp3 and a few other common types. But the whole point of having the option to add any other field to the column browser and the tag panel means you don't have to do without. There is just a single step for each of these to have any one you wish to see.
I know how to see the extended tag (right click, extended tag). I want it in a column so I can see them without going through all that and maybe edit them.

I know columns can be named whatever tf you want. The question is what to put in Value and Field!. %disc title% is not on the suggested list.
DISC TITLE isn't on the Field list. So one would have to guess that, too.
No guessing is expected. Use Alt+T to call up the Extended Tags in your files, and it will clearly show ALL of the tags you have filled in. That is exactly what you need to put into those values.
