How to export MP3's to micro-SD card

Hello...

I use the excellent MP3 Tag to arrange Album Art for MP3's.

I know how to randomize this list within MP3 Tag...

However, I'd like to transfer the RANDOMISED MP3's to a micro-SD card on my Desktop computer, then place this card into my portable MP3 player...

Is this possible within MP3 Tag or can anyone suggest a solution?

I thought: Files > Export...but I can't see what to do next...

Many thanks

The export function creates a text file from tag data.

What criterion does your player use to play files in a certain order?
That piece of information has to be modified to elfect the new order.

Hi ohrenkiino

Thanks for taking time to reply.

My MP3 plays tracks in exact order listed on the micro-SD card

At the moment, I have to use Media Monkey software to first randomise then transfer - all within MM.

The problem is MM randomising isn't nearly as good as MP3 Tag's !!

So, I find myself having to manually shift tracks to get the order I'm happy with.
Normally, a 32Gb micro-SD card holds a LOT of tracks.

I'm hoping MP3 Tag can save me valuable time...

I haven't used it, but mp3tag has a Generate Playlist function. If your media player supports playlists, that might work.

But it doesn't have a "shuffle" function?

Again: what does your player use to determine the order on the SD card?
Is it the filename? The Title? Album? Track number?

If your var-player can not use playlists you can mark all your files of your randomized list in Mp3tag (CTRL-a) and drag and drop these files to your SDCard.

If you give the songs Track-IDs corresponding to their place in your list and rename the files with them in first place it should work on your MP3Player. A example for the filename-structure:
%Track%. %Title% - %Artist%

There are many different ways car systems sort audio files. Some are as basic as the write order of the tracks in the filesystem.

This recent thread has several suggestions to follow to find out what mahy affect your particular use case.

The order on the card is as follows:

Artist then Track Name.
For example, it then shows on the player's display as follows:

'Steely Dan - Reelin' In The Years'

And does your player sort the files by the filename? The track number? the album? A combination of a number of tag fields?
Which tag fields have you filled?

Just a hint: the filename is no tag and it is not the title or artist - it is the filename.

Hi poster...thanks for the input, but all you get by dragging the highlighted list is 'warning/no go' symbol. If I could do as you say, then that would be great!
There doesn't seem to be any way of dragging tracks to Windows/File Explorer where the SD card shows as 'removable device'.

The player gives the 'Artist-Track' a corresponding number equal to its place on the list.

So, as per example above, assuming it was the first track on the list:

  1. Steely Dan - Reelin' In The Years

The fields I've filled in on MP3 Tag at the top I've altered a little from the default fields

So, 'Filename' now changed to 'Artist/Track' and the full MP3 Tag top layout looks as follows:

Artist/Track > Album > Track No > Track Time > Genre > Year

All the above then shows on the player's display....

Does that help at all?

It would help so much if you could tell us what the player uses to sort files.
Is it the filename?
Is it the order in the file allocation table?
If you want to get the "random" order from MP3tag over to the player then you have find out what the player uses to determine its own play order.

So, e.g. if the player uses the filename, then you would have to add something (usually a number) to the filename to enable the player to determine in which position you like to have a certain file.
After the number has been added to the filename (provided this is the sortng criterion) you copy or move the files over to the SD card with Edit>Copy ... or Edit>Move ...

Hi Ohrenkino,

I understand what you're saying re: 'filename/number' etc, but I can't explain things any more clearly than I've already done. Nevertheless, I've enjoyed toying further with MP3 Tag and that's no bad thing.

However, last thing I want is having to number each track (among hundreds!).
The whole point of my initial query was to allow me to randomise effectively and quickly, then simply transfer to SD card, not give myself more work to do.

My MP3 player is of hifi quality and plays MP3's superbly, but its 'instructions' are all in Chinese so that doesn't help if I'm trying to get into how it 'chooses' to order itself etc

Luckily, the display always shows in English and what I've already explained is exactly how it shows on the display. Including Album Art which I've completed via MP3 Tag but could also have done via Media Monkey.

I'm grateful for your input and time Ohrenkino but really, because Media Monkey does the randomizing and transferring with no fuss and just a couple of clicks, I'll just stick with that, regardless of its inferior randomising compared to MP3 Tag's.

All I do is:

Load MP3's in Explorer > Insert micro-SD card > Open MM > Randomize > Send to SD card > play tracks as randomized in my superb MP3 player!

So, no mess, no fuss, all done in no time at all.

Once again, though, Ohrenkino, many thanks to you and all others who've taken the time to respond to my query. Much appreciated...

Rest assured I still love using MP3 Tag and have recommended the software to many others with special mention, of course, of the MP3 Tag Community help!!

Regards

If MM does it for you - what does MM add to the files so that your player knows what you have done on the pc in respect to random order?

As soon as you would tell us what your player uses to "guess" which order you want, it would probably easy to add that information also in MP3tag.
So far you have not told us yet.
