I have a question ~ WMP does not show picture in video file

I am a New User, as of today, and I was able to save the Thumbnail I wanted, two different versions, as JPG files to my Windows 10 Computer.

Then I put the Downloaded Video Link in the MP3Tag Window, and added the Thumbnail to the ‘Cover Art’ box in the Lower Left, Saved it, and have it on my Desktop, everything looks wonderful.

I repeated that, with the Downloaded Video Link in the MP3Tag Window, with the Second Thumbnail I saved as a JPG File added to the ‘Cover Art’ box in the Lower Left, Saved it, and have it on my Desktop.

Everything also looks fine in my File Explorer as well.

However, my problem is that no matter what I do, whether I play either of these in Windows Media Player, or Upload them to Windows Messenger Desktop, The Thumbnails go away, that is exactly the problem I was having before, and I had so hoped that your MMP3Tag Program would help me resolve this.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Sincerely,

Perhaps a translation issue, but do you really mean that you are trying to add a “video” cover? This is not standard and I highly doubt any player will handle any cover art in any video format. But perhaps you more likely have a jpg image file?

If these are truly image files, you need to force WMP to rescan your library to pick up any changes including the cover art.

Hello Motley G,

I am using the term that MP3Tag used, they referred to ‘dragging the video to their window’ and then adding what I would refer to as my ‘Downloaded JPG File’ for a ‘Thumbnail’ to the Area in the Lower Left that says ‘Cover Art’ and then ‘clicking’ Save’.

I believe what you are saying more accurately describes what I did, I wanted to place a ‘Thumbnail’, in JPG format, on a Downloaded Video, and I believe MP3Tag refers to it as ‘embedding it’, you see, the Video played fine, but I did not like that it simply had a ‘Black Screen’ and no ‘Thumbnail’.

So, I followed the steps as mentioned above, I put the video in the MP3Tag Window, added the JPG ‘Thumbnail’ that I had saved in the ‘Lower Left’, it does say ‘Cover Art’, however we are simply talking about a ‘Thumbnail’.

Then, I clicked ‘Save’, and that worked, not only in my File Explorer on my Windows Desktop, but on my Windows Desktop itself.

The problem is, the ‘Thumbnail’ is not ‘remaining’ when I go to play the Video in Windows Media Player or when I upload it, and that is why this Program was recommended.

I hope that helps explain what I am trying to accomplish, MotleyG!

Thank you so much for your response, and let me know if there is any more information you need, for clarity.

Sincerely,

I believe a screenshot or two would be of benefit here. You are interchangeably referring to thumbnails and videos. What is the type are the files you are trying to attach the jpg thumbnail to?

No, I apologize MotleyG, the Video is an ‘Mp4 Link’, the ‘Thumbnail’ is a JPG File.

The video itself is a downloaded video, as I said, it plays, however I do not like that it simply has a ‘Black Thumbnail’.

The Thumbnail, I downloaded as a JPG File.

And the Thumbnail definitely is ‘Saved’, in the MT3Program along with my Video, and the Video is in Mp4 Format, and appears that way in my File Explorer and Desktop, the problem it, this Program was supposed to prevent the ‘Thumbnail’ from ‘going away’, and that is what is still happening.

Whether I play the Video in Media Player, or whether I upload it, it simply becomes a ‘Black Screen’, which is what I had before.

Yes, I can still play the Video, however I do not like the ‘Black Screen’, I am trying to get a JPG ‘Thumbnail’ that will ‘Stick’, and that is what I was told this MT3Tag Program would do and it is not working properly, although I am following all of the steps provided.

Again, I appreciate all of your help, MotleyG.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide you or answer for you.

Sincerely,

If the Media Player does not show it, then it looks like a media player or even Windows Explorer problem to me.
You could clear the WMP grafic cache, check the folder whether there is a (hidden) folder.jpg file or albumartsmall.jpg file that does not show the same picture as the one that you have embedded, or use a different player.

Thank you, I will try that, I am also having it happen when I upload to, eg., FB Messenger.

The video ‘works’, and ‘plays’, however the ‘Thumbnail’ is gone and video simply looks ‘black’, that is what I had read this Program, MP3Tag, would avoid, because the ‘Thumbnail’ would be embedded as part of the video.

Thank you again, I will try what you have mentioned.

Sincerely,

You always have to check if the player has a database of his own or a cache or something similar. You would have to clear that first or import the freshly tagged file as a new file and see what happens.

Some video players use a frame from within the first few seconds of the file as a thumbnail and do not use any attached cover art image. If the files have a longer black fade-in section that is likely what you are seeing. This is up to the player software. If what you see in mp3tag is correct even after closing and then opening the file again, there is nothing more that mp3tag can do.
